Following Democrats’ successful filibuster of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, Senator Josh Hawley released the following statement:

“Protecting the most vulnerable members of our society should not be a partisan issue. We’re talking about newborn babies. Every person has equal dignity and worth, and every life is worth fighting for no matter how small. It’s as simple as that,” said Senator Hawley. “It’s a disgrace that Democrats have tried to make the issue of life so convoluted that they now can’t even find the moral courage to disavow infanticide.”

Senator Hawley spoke on the Senate floor in support of the bill in early February. Video of that speech can be found here.

Background on the on Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act:

Senator Hawley is an original cosponsor of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. (Congress.gov, 1/15/19)

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would give protections of law to infants who survive abortion attempts. “SEC. 2. FINDINGS. Congress finds the following: (1) If an abortion results in the live birth of an infant, the infant is a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the United States, and entitled to all the protections of such laws. (2) Any infant born alive after an abortion or within a hospital, clinic, or other facility has the same claim to the protection of the law that would arise for any newborn, or for any person who comes to a hospital, clinic, or other facility for screening and treatment or otherwise becomes a patient within its care.” (Congress.gov, 1/15/19)
