The bill  – which is headed to President Trump’s desk for signature  – includes report language requiring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to detail the current and projected remediation needs, staffing requirements, and estimates of the latest timeline for removing hazardous waste in the landfill.

In July 2025, Senator Hawley secured the largest expansion ever to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA), signed into law as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This legislation will deliver compensation to those who lived near West Lake Landfill and Coldwater Creek and were exposed to radioactive waste. Over 600 Missourians have already received nearly $30 million in compensation.
